Manitoba Motocross Race Report: Brokenhead MX Raceway, Beausejour

Report and photos by Doug Engstrom

Brokenhead MX Raceway was the site of the MMA’s final Fall Provincial Championship round.  While some titles were already secured, several were still up for grabs and fans were hoping some hot on track battles would help take some of the bite out of the cool fall breeze.

Rio Stoesz came up one moto short of a perfect series in the 85cc 7-11 class.  Stoesz won 13 of 14 motos en route to the title.  Ty Shemko and Lane Louttit complete the series podium.

The 50cc 7-8 class saw some close racing this fall and D.J. Burmey emerged from those battles as the champion.  Bryce Sexton and Noah Robinson followed Burmey to the series podium.

Perennial MMA champion Kim Houde added two more titles to his collection this fall.  With the Vet Master and 40+ titles already secured Houde emerged from the trailer with a classic Husqvarna for his last moto of the season.  Renold Sawatsky and Mike Harms joined Houde on the Vet Master podium, while Danny Winistok and Sawatsky took second and third in the 40+ class.

Rachel Regier topped the Little Ladies class followed by Jessica Bell and Jessa Champagne.

The Pro class saw some of the closest racing seen in recent years in the MMA.  Entering the day, the titles were still up for grabs in both Pro classes as well as the #1 plate for next season.  Everything came up aces for Nick Dunn on this day.  The gregscustom.com rider held onto his point lead in the 125 Pro class swapping moto wins with the Westside Honda of Adam Pfeiffer.  In the 250 Pro class Dunn overcame a five point deficit by taking both motos and snatching the title from Pfeiffer by a single point.  The Headingley Sportshop Kawasaki of Earl Reimer filled the third step on the box in the 125 Pro class, while the Enns Agri Yamaha of Josh Shiskoski joined the 250 Pro podium.

Unable to grab a Pro title in his first season as a pro, Brandon RV& Leisure rider Brady Breemersch didn’t go home empty handed.  Breemersch grabbed the Youth title ahead of the Westside Honda of Eddie Anderson and Dunn.

Ryan Kokorudz had his title secured prior to Beausejour in the 50cc 4-6 class and opted to sit the last race out.  Hunter Sexton and Adam Wiebe joined Kokorudz in the top three.

Steven Saluk ran the table on his way to the ATV Beginner class title; Bob Polkinghorne and Justin Rioux complete the championship trio.

The ATV Pro class saw multiple moto winners with Chris Eyolfson coming out on top at seasons end.  Curtis Barley and Daryl Toews took second and third respectively.

With the rest of the class getting faster each week, Ty Shemko was forced to battle right to the wire in the 65cc PeeWee class.  Shemko overcame a four-point deficit entering the day to overtake Ryan Linto for the title.  Jordan Devloo finished the series in the third spot.

Luke McFadden earned the 25+ class title in style by pulling out a 250 2 stroke in place of his usual 450 4 stroke ride.  Matt Hamm and Marvin Penner complete the podium.

You can’t get a closer series than the 250 Intermediate class.  Colin Cyr took the title by virtue of the tiebreaker after finishing the series tied with Devon Ward.  McFadden took the third spot.

In the 125 Intermediate class Ward (101) entered the day trailing Cyr (91), and promptly grabbed a moto one victory to narrow the point gap.  A second moto battle for the title was short lived after Cyr’s bike locked up early in the moto.  Jason Loewen was third for the series.

Entering the day five points down in the 125 Beginner class, Michael Giesbrecht had a very clear mission, finish ahead of Dustin Konzelman in both motos.  Mission accomplished as a 1-2 day helped Giesbrecht secure the title after Konzelman went 2-3.  Marcus Giesbrecht also grabbed a moto win at Beausejour as well as third in the series.

Ami Houde added another Ladies title to her resume with a victory over Bev Bryce-Leger and Gisele DeKoninck.

Stuart Brincheski left Beausejour with a pair of titles in the 85cc 12-16 and Youth B classes.  Josh Pfrimmer and Jeremy Breemersch in 85cc 12-16 and Tyler Bergen and Brandon Senchuk in Youth B filled the podium.

Pearce McKellar secured the closely contested title in the 125 Junior class.  Joining McKellar on the box was Brincheski and Jeremy Breemersch.

Lindsay Masse was another multiple title winner taking the top spot in the Junior GP and 250 Junior classes.  Braden Jonsson and McKellar in the GP and Randall Klassen and Ian Smith in the 250 class filled the podiums.

With the Vet Junior title secured Randall Klassen was not present in Beausejour.  Ken Klassen and Greg Wiebe were the rest of the top three.

Ken Klassen took the 40+ B class title ahead of Olaf Rohm and Randall Klassen.

Garrett Graboweski stood on top of the box in the Supermini class followed by Josh Pfrimmer and Jeremy Breemersch.

In a series that didn’t have a single repeat overall winner, consistency was key.  Rewarded for that consistency was Dustin Osborne (373) who collected the 250 Beginner title ahead of Damien Beaudoin and Matthew Mannette.

See you at the races…
